Basketball Recap: Veritas Prep Puts Losing Streak Behind Them

There's no place like home for Veritas Prep, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Heritage Academy Heroes on Tuesday, sneaking past 31-28. That's more bragging rights for the Falcons, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Veritas Prep was led to victory by Cate Schneider and Katherine Huse. Schneider almost dropped a double-double on nine points and ten rebounds, while Huse posted nine points and eight boards. Schneider has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last six times she's played.

When it comes to explaining why Heritage Academy lost, don't look at Nancy James. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 12 points and 13 boards. What's more, James also racked up eight blocks, the most she's had since back in January of 2024. Another player making a difference was Valeria Castorena, who put up nine points.

With the win, Veritas Prep broke their six-game losing streak and moved their record to 7-11. As for Heritage Academy, they dropped their record down to 2-13 with the loss, which was their third straight on the road.

Veritas Prep will welcome Santa Cruz Valley at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Heritage Academy, they will square off against Arizona Lutheran Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Arizona Lutheran Academy will roll in looking for their sixth straight victory, something Heritage Academy surely won't give up without a fight.
