Basketball Game Preview: Kirby Cougars vs. Melrose Golden Wildcats

Kirby is 2-7 against Melrose since December of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Kirby Cougars will welcome the Melrose Golden Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. One thing working in Kirby's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last 24 contests.

It was a proper cat-fight when Kirby challenged Hamilton on Friday. Kirby blew past Hamilton 72-51. The Cougars have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine matches by 20 points or more this season.

Meanwhile, Melrose was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their ninth straight defeat. They took a blow against Ridgeway, falling 67-40. While losing is never fun, the Golden Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 305th, while the Roadrunners are ranked 103rd).

Kirby has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 16-9 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.5 points over those games. As for Melrose, their loss dropped their record down to 2-15.

Kirby didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Melrose when the teams last played two weeks ago, but they still walked away with a 65-59 win. Does Kirby have another victory up their sleeve, or will Melrose turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
