Football Game Preview: Fabens Wildcats vs. Ysleta Indians

Two dominant signal callers in Jesus Martinez and Rodrigo Martinez are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Fabens Wildcats will host the Ysleta Indians at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Fabens has given up an average of 25.8 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Fabens is probably headed into the contest with a chip on their shoulder considering Austin just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Friday. They lost 35-14 to the Panthers.

Despite the loss, Fabens saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Ismael Rodriguez picked up 131 receiving yards and two scores.

Meanwhile, Ysleta strolled into their game last Friday with a perfect record and they left with the same. They enjoyed a cozy 43-28 victory over Austin.

Ysleta's win came from a few key players Fabens will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Martin Castro, who rushed for 104 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Armando Guzman was another key player, picking up 114 receiving yards and one TD.

On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Ysleta's defense and their four sacks. That dominant display was truly a team effort as four different players picked up one apiece. They got some further help from Ryan Lopez: he picked up a sack, made nine total tackles, and defended one pass.

Ysleta's win bumped their record up to 5-0. As for Fabens, their defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 3-1 and their overall record down to 4-2.
