Baseball Game Preview: Cloverdale Clovers vs. North Putnam Cougars

For the second straight game, Cloverdale will face off against North Putnam. The Clovers will take on the Cougars at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Cloverdale is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.4 runs per game this season.

Cloverdale took a eight-run loss the last time they faced off against North Putnam, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Clovers skirted past the Cougars 6-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Clovers have posted since May 22, 2024.

Landyn Shaw was excellent, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with three stolen bases and two runs. He is becoming a predictor of Cloverdale's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 2-10 when he doesn't).

North Putnam's defeat dropped their record down to 6-9. As for Cloverdale, their win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-6 and their overall record up to 5-10.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Saturday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Cloverdale has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like North Putnam struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 8.4 strikeouts.
