Volleyball Recap: Newton's Luck Changes for the Better on Thursday

Newton won the last time they faced Paris and things went their way on Thursday too. The Eagles came out on top against the Tigers by a score of 2-0. The win was some much needed relief for the Eagles as it spelled an end to their three-match losing streak.

Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-16, 25-19.

Hydi Bierman paced Newton's offense, picking up ten kills. Bierman got some help from Amy Shull and her 11 assists. Stella Schackmann controlled things from the service line, finishing with two aces.

When it comes to explaining why Paris lost, don't look at Sara Staley. Despite the final result, she had 13 digs. Ava Tarr also deserves some recognition as she posted her first assist of the season.

Newton's victory bumped their record up to 20-15. As for Paris, their defeat ended a four-match streak of wins at home and dropped them to 23-11.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Newton will head out to square off against Hamilton County at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Paris, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against Sullivan at 6:00 p.m.
