Soccer Game Preview: Lafayette vs. Smithfield

The Lafayette Rams will take on the Smithfield Packers at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Lafayette will be strutting in after a win while Smithfield will be coming in after a loss.

Lafayette's defense heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. Everything went their way against New Kent as they made off with a 4-0 victory. Considering Lafayette have won eight contests by more than two goals this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Meanwhile, Smithfield came up short against Menchville on Monday and fell 4-2.

Julianna Jones wasn't going to let the Monarchs walk away unscathed as she scored both of the Packers' goals, bringing her season total up to 16 goals.

Lafayette has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won nine of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-3-1 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 41 goals over those ten matches. As for Smithfield, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-5-1.

Everything went Lafayette's way against Smithfield in their previous meeting back in May of 2024, as Lafayette made off with an 8-0 victory. Do the Rams have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Packers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
