Basketball Recap: Bruton Makes It Seven in a Row at Home

Bruton entered their tilt with Smithfield on Monday with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Smithfield Packers, sneaking past 70-67. This was a revenge game for the Panthers: when they faced off against the Packers back in December of 2024, they had to take a 80-78 loss.

Bruton's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Cy Gresham, who dropped a double-double with 16 points and ten rebounds. The dominant performance gave Gresham a new career-high in boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Johnathan Hopkins, who posted 12 points.

Bruton was working as a unit and finished the game with 22 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in three consecutive games.

Bruton's victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-5. As for Smithfield, their defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 17-3.

Looking ahead, Bruton will take on Jamestown at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Bruton is facing Jamestown at the right time seeing as Jamestown is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Smithfield, they will face off against New Kent at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. New Kent knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 20 matches -- so hopefully Smithfield likes a good challenge.
