Soccer Game Preview: West Johnston vs. Union Pines

The West Johnston Wildcats will head out to take on the Union Pines Vikings at 6:30 p.m. on Monday. West Johnston will aim to continue their four-game streak of scoring more goals each match than the last.

West Johnston is headed in fresh off scoring the most goals they have all season. They blew past Western Harnett 8-0 on Thursday. Jakob Torres was a massive factor in the win as he booted in three goals all by himself.

Meanwhile, after soaring to six goals the game before, Union Pines was a bit more limited in their contest on Friday. They fell 3-1 to Lee County. While losing is never fun, Union Pines can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina soccer rankings (they are ranked 441st, while Lee County are ranked 184th).

West Johnston's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-9-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up one goal over those four matchups. As for Union Pines, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-9.

West Johnston skirted past Union Pines 1-0 in their previous matchup back in September. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
