Baseball Recap: James Lick Comes Up Short

James Lick extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 4-11 in the process. They came up short against the Overfelt Royals, falling 13-3. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Royals this season, with their most recent defeat being a 16-0 loss back in March.

James Lick saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Joshua Diaz, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one run. That triple was Diaz's first of the season. Anthony Rodriguez was another, going 1-for-2 with three stolen bases and one run.

As for Overfelt, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-10. Considering they have won eight games by more than eight runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

On Overfelt's side, HUGO JERONIMO spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on four hits and racked up nine Ks. JERONIMO has become a key player for the Royals: the team is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 6-10 otherwise.

On the hitting side, BRIAN BECERRA DADO was incredible, going 4-for-5 with two stolen bases, three runs, and four RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of ELIJAH CASTANEDA-AZCUETA, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two triples, two RBI, and one run.

Coincidentally, James Lick and Overfelt will both be playing Gunderson the next time they take the field. The Royals will host the Grizzlies at 4:00 p.m. on Monday, while the Comets will host them at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday.
