Nature Coast Tech hasn't had much luck against Mitchell recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Sharks will look to defend their home field against the Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Nature Coast Tech was handed a heart-breaking two-run defeat in their last match, but they sure didn't let that happen against Weeki Wachee on Friday. The Sharks blew past the Hornets 12-2.
Kamryn Ross spent all five innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on three hits and racked up seven Ks.
On the hitting side, Athena Brown was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Miranda Wiemer was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and two RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Nature Coast Tech kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are 7-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Mitchell entered their tilt with Springstead on Monday with four consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with five. They were the clear victors by an 11-5 margin over the Eagles. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Mustangs considering their one-run performance the game before.
Savannah Toukatly made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up three earned runs off five hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 16 consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going 4-for-5 with six RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those four hits gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mya Brown, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Savannah Hencz, who went 2-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Nature Coast Tech's victory ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 11-10. As for Mitchell, their win bumped their record up to 19-5.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Nature Coast Tech hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .317. However, it's not like Mitchell struggles in that department as they've averaged .359. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
