Softball Game Preview: DeKalb Barbs vs. Larkin Royals

The DeKalb Barbs will face off against the Larkin Royals at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Larkin took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on DeKalb, who comes in off a win.

DeKalb had to skate by with only a one-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the seven-run drubbing they dealt Naperville North on Friday. The Barbs blew past the Huskies 8-1. The win continues a trend for the Barbs in their matchups with the Huskies: they've now won three in a row.

Addison McKiness spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered a run (which was unearned) on six hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Kennedy Latimer was incredible, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Sydney Miles, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

Meanwhile, Larkin fell victim to Riverside-Brookfield and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They lost 10-0 to the Bulldogs. The Royals haven't had much luck with the Bulldogs recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

DeKalb's victory bumped their record up to 8-5. As for Larkin, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-10.

DeKalb got the 'W' in their previous meeting back in May of 2025 against Larkin by a conclusive 12-2 score. Do the Barbs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Royals turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
