Football Preview: Socorro Bulldogs vs. Eastlake Falcons
Socorro is 0-4 against Eastlake since November of 2020 but things could change on Friday. The Socorro Bulldogs will look to defend their home field against the Eastlake Falcons at 6:30 p.m.
Socorro is headed into the matchup out to prove that what happened against Eastwood last Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Socorro was outmatched by Eastwood on the road and fell 49-14. The contest marked the Bulldogs' lowest-scoring game so far this season.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Eder Hernandez, who rushed for 113 yards and a touchdown. His rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his fifth straight game with at least 100 rushing yards dating back to last season. Socorro also got help from Elkor Landeros, who showed off his sure hands for 81 receiving yards.
Socorro didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Ruben Huerta. Socorro got some further help from Prince Vital: he forced a fumble and made 11 total tackles (1.0 for loss).
Meanwhile, everything went Eastlake's way against Eastwood on Thursday as Eastlake made off with a 49-28 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Falcons.
Steven Galindo was his usual excellent self, rushing for 241 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 10.0 yards per carry, and also picking up 30 receiving yards. Eastlake is 2-1 when Galindo posts two or more rushing touchdowns, but 1-2 otherwise.
Socorro now has a losing record at 2-3. As for Eastlake, the victory got them back to even at 3-3.
