Baseball Game Preview: Western Panthers vs. Olivet Eagles

The Western Panthers will square off against the Olivet Eagles at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Western has given up an average of 7.3 runs per game this season, but Saturday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Western couldn't beat Tecumseh on Thursday even though they stacked four runs on them in the third inning. The Panthers lost 13-7 to the Indians. The Panthers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

DJ VanRiper made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. Western is 3-1 when VanRiper posts two or more runs, but 4-7-1 otherwise.

For some reason, the away team has come away with the win the last four times Olivet and Charlotte have met, but the home crowd finally got their W on Tuesday. The Eagles had just enough and edged out the Orioles 2-1. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Orioles recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive win against them.

Olivet's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-4. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Western, they now have a losing record of 7-8-1.
