Baseball Recap: Jackson County Snaps Seven-Game Streak of Wins at Home

Jackson County dropped their record down to 14-5 on Thursday, which also ended the team's seven-game streak of wins at home. They fell just short of the South Laurel Cardinals by a score of 2-1. If the Generals were looking for revenge after losing 10-0 to the Cardinals when the teams met back in May of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

As for South Laurel, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 12-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.4 runs on average over those games.

For South Laurel's part, Keaton Smith spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up ten Ks.

At the plate, South Laurel saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Will Alsip, who went 2-for-3 with one run.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Jackson County will welcome Lincoln County at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for South Laurel, they will face off against Rockcastle County at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Cardinals are facing the Rockets at the right time seeing as the Rockets are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
