Softball Recap: Centennial Comes Up Short

Centennial extended their losing streak to five on Thursday, dropping them down to 3-9. They lost 14-3 to the Canby Cougars. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Cougars this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 8-2 last Friday.

As for Canby, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 10-4. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games.

For Canby's part, Presley Ricksger was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. Ricksger has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs and three runs while going 2-for-4. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Katelyn Vissers was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Abi Troutman, who went 1-for-4 with three runs, two RBI, and one double.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Centennial will head out to challenge Wilsonville at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Eagles will need to watch out since the Wildcats have now posted at least ten runs in their last six contests. As for Canby, they will head out on the road to square off against Parkrose at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Broncos have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 24.45 runs per game on average), something the Cougars will no doubt try to take advantage of.
