Baseball Game Preview: Carlsbad Lancers vs. La Costa Canyon Mavericks

Carlsbad hasn't had much luck against La Costa Canyon recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Lancers will head out to take on the Mavericks at 4:00 p.m. The last three games Carlsbad has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Carlsbad took a loss when they played away from home on Wednesday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-6 victory over Torrey Pines. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last six times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Hunter Dawson tossed a big game, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off one hit.

At the plate, Jett Kenady was a standout: he went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Max Adams, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one run.

Meanwhile, La Costa Canyon unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Friday. They fell just short of Rancho Bernardo by a score of 6-4. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Mavericks have suffered since March 18th.

La Costa Canyon's loss dropped their record down to 9-7. As for Carlsbad, their record is now 11-6.

Carlsbad came up short against La Costa Canyon when the teams last played back in April of 2024, falling 4-1. Can the Lancers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
