Football Recap: Yutan Piles Up the Points Against Norfolk Catholic

With a playoff win on the line, Yutan rose to the challenge on Friday. They really took it to the Norfolk Catholic Knights for the full four quarters, racking up a 36-8 victory. The Chieftains might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven contests by 20 points or more this season.

Yutan found their leader in sophomore Kaleb Fenner, who rushed for 332 yards and two scores while picking up 11.1 yards per carry. Those 332 rushing yards set a new season-high mark for Fenner. The team also got some help courtesy of Otto Henkel, who rushed for 87 yards and a pair of TDs on only eight carries.

Yutan didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Norfolk Catholic to a completion percentage of just 45%. The team can thank Ryan Maguire for the heroic effort on defense: he. Sadly, that's becoming something of a trend for Yutan; they were averaging 57.4%completion percentage earlier this season, but in their last three matchups they've fallen to only 57.4%.

Despite the loss, Norfolk Catholic still got an impressive performance from Nathan Timmerman, who rushed for 48 yards and one touchdown, and also picked up 41 receiving yards.

Yutan pushed their record up to 8-2 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 10.0 points on average over those games. As for Norfolk Catholic, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 7-3.

Coming up, Yutan will challenge Bishop Neumann at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Chieftains will need to watch out since the Cavaliers have now posted at least 31 points in their last three games. Norfolk Catholic does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
