Basketball Recap: Maize Takes a Loss

Maize lost against Derby back in December of 2024, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Maize Eagles lost 59-34 to the Derby Panthers. While losing is never fun, the Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 202nd in Kansas, while the Panthers are ranked 19th in Kansas).

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Derby to victory, but perhaps none more so than Aysia Fox, who posted 12 points. Fox has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Kelby Clingan, who scored nine points.

Maize has traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-14-1 record this season. The victory was the third in a row for Derby, bringing their record for this year to 17-3.

As of now, neither Maize nor Derby have any future games scheduled.
