Softball Recap: Sonoma Valley Has No Trouble Against Napa

Sonoma Valley's game last Wednesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They were the clear victors by an 11-5 margin over the Napa Grizzlies. The win continues a trend for the Dragons in their matchups with the Grizzlies: they've now won four in a row.

Morgan Briggs made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over seven innings while giving up five earned runs off ten hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in April of 2024. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That triple was her first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Katherine Kiser, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. Ellie Llanos was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-5.

Sonoma Valley kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Sonoma Valley's victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 4-9. As for Napa, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last eight matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-11 record this season.

Sonoma Valley will take on Rancho Cotate at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Napa, they will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Casa Grande at 4:00 p.m. on the 21st.
