Basketball Recap: Chambers Academy Comes Up Short

Chambers Academy suffered their closest defeat since November 17, 2023 on Friday. They fell just short of the Edgewood Academy Wildcats by a score of 49-46. The Rebels were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Wildcats earlier this season, when they won 60-48.

Edgewood Academy found their leader in sophomore Lexie Smith, who posted 29 points and eight steals. Smith's evening made it nine games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Aubrey Newton, who had ten points and five rebounds.

This is the second loss in a row for Chambers Academy and nudges their season record down to 2-2. As for Edgewood Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. After both having extra time off, Chambers Academy and Springwood will shake off the cobwebs and challenge one another at 6:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025. Springwood will roll in looking for their tenth straight win, something Chambers Academy surely won't give up without a fight. As for Edgewood Academy, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Banks Academy at 5:00 p.m. on January 2, 2025.
