Softball Recap: Cousino Picks Up Third Consecutive Victory

Cousino entered their tilt with Center Line on Tuesday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Panthers an 18-0 shutout. The Patriots might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won three games by 15 runs or more this season.

Madison Blase made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out nine over four innings pitched. Blase was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Payton Hewitt, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, five RBI, and two runs. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played. Another player making a difference was Isabella Hormillosa, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Cousino always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .622. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .543 or higher in three consecutive matches.

The win was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 4-6. As for Center Line, they are on a 13-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-6.

Cousino and Center Line could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Michigan Rankings. The Patriots (ranked 359th) will meet Clawson (ranked 130th) at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Center Line will challenge Mott at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday with a big rank disadvantage (437 vs. 129).
