Baseball Game Preview: Escalon Cougars vs. Buhach Colony Thunder

The Escalon Cougars will head out to take on the Buhach Colony Thunder at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Escalon's pitching crew has only allowed three runs per game this season, so Buhach Colony's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

Escalon took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out Merced 5-4.

Josh Fiori made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two RBI.

In other batting news, Logan Huebner was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while going 3-for-3. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in stolen bases. Emerson Smith also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Meanwhile, Buhach Colony and Turlock finished up their match with a 3-3 draw on Monday.

Escalon's record is now 4-2. Buhach Colony's draw gives them a new season record of 1-0-1.

Escalon skirted past Buhach Colony 6-5 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Escalon since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
