Recap: Elko Indians vs. Fernley Vaqueros
The Elko Indians's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their sixth straight loss. They were the victim of a rough 59-33 loss at the hands of Fernley. Elko has not had much luck with Fernley recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Despite the loss, Elko still got an impressive performance from Roxanne Keim, who scored eight points along with seven rebounds and four steals. Keim is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last four games she's played. Ecko Atkins was another key contributor, scoring six points along with two steals.
Fernley got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jaelece Wasson out in front who scored 18 points along with two steals. Wasson has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Taylor Tollestrup, who scored 15 points along with seven rebounds and two blocks.
Elko's defeat was their fifth straight on the road, which bumped their record down to 6-8. As for Fernley, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 18-1.
Elko on the road again on Saturday and play against Dayton at 1:00 p.m. on January 13th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Nevada (Dayton is ranked 53rd, while Elko is ranked 48th). As for Fernley, their homestand continues as they prepare to take on Spring Creek at 1:00 p.m. on January 13th. Hopefully Spring Creek focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 28 on Friday.
