AA District 2 recap Oct. 3, 2012
Cumberland Gap moved up to 183 from 214 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in AA District 2. The Panthers climbed the ranks as a result of a 55-27 win over Chuckey-Doak.
Grainger was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from sixth to fourth in the league. Earlier in the week, the Grizzlies defeated Claiborne 36-19.
Cumberland Gap's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Blake Franklin threw for 300 and three touchdowns and Dylan Gambel had 121 yards receiving. On the ground Wesley Nance chipped in 123 yards. Chase Smith helped Cumberland Gap's passing attack out by catching four balls for 95 yards.
Cumberland Gap's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Panthers feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Franklin has thrown for 979 yards and nine touchdowns this season, while Gambel has 18 catches for 349 yards. Nance leads the league in rushing with 645 yards.
A big matchup in AA District 2 this week will be when Greeneville takes on Delynn Cline's team. As it stands, the Green Devils are in third, while the Panthers are in first.
The top two defenses in the league will face off this season when Greeneville takes on Cumberland Gap. Caine Ballard's team has allowed 136 points this season, while the Panthers have given up 107.
Cumberland Gap made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 6,701 from 7,936. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 55-27 victory over the Black Knights last week.
