Baseball Game Preview: Boardman Spartans vs. West Branch Warriors

The Boardman Spartans will square off against the West Branch Warriors at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Neither Boardman nor West Branch posted many runs in their last games, so it might be the pitching crews that decide this one.

While Boardman's win against Harding wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Spartans' pitchers stepped up to hand the Raiders a 2-0 shutout on Tuesday. The victory continues a trend for the Spartans in their matchups with the Raiders: they've now won eight in a row.

The team relied heavily on Landon Whippo, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI and one double. Grayson Eicher was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, Tuesday just wasn't the day for West Branch's offense. They fell 3-0 to Ursuline on Tuesday.

The win got Boardman back to even at 1-1. As for West Branch, their defeat dropped their record down to an identical 1-1.

Boardman couldn't quite finish off West Branch in their previous matchup back in March of 2023 and fell 6-4. Can the Spartans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
