Basketball Recap: Buckeye Trail Takes a Loss

After flying high against Newcomerstown last Friday, Buckeye Trail came back down to earth. The Buckeye Trail Warriors fell 58-47 to the Union Local Jets on Saturday. The Warriors have struggled against the Jets recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.

Union Local got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Brandon Mehl out in front who posted 17 points and three steals. Mehl has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Brody Gregor was another key player, going 5 for 10 en route to 13 points along with seven assists and three steals.

Buckeye Trail's loss dropped their record down to 11-6. As for Union Local, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-5.

Buckeye Trail will be playing in front of their home fans against Strasburg-Franklin at 7:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Buckeye Trail is on a three-game streak of home wins, Strasburg-Franklin a three-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court. As for Union Local, they are taking a road trip to square off against Shadyside at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Union Local is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 61.4 points per game this season.
