Basketball Recap: Gulf Breeze Comes Up Short

Gulf Breeze was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their eighth straight defeat. They took a 59-47 hit to the loss column at the hands of the West Florida Baptist Academy Conquerors. The Dolphins were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Conquerors apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.

Leading West Florida Baptist Academy to victory were Bryse Burkett and Olivia Pearce. Burkett went 7 for 16 on her way to 21 points in addition to six rebounds and four steals, while Pearce dropped a double-double on 15 points and 16 boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Ruby Gifford, who posted nine points and four steals.

Gulf Breeze's defeat dropped their record down to 1-9. As for West Florida Baptist Academy, their win bumped their record up to 8-1.

Gulf Breeze won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Pace at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for West Florida Baptist Academy, they will also get right back to it: they'll challenge Freeport at 3:30 p.m. on Friday.
