Basketball Recap: Cripple Creek-Victor Comes Up Short

After flying high against Colorado School for the Deaf Blind last Thursday, Cripple Creek-Victor came back down to earth. The Cripple Creek-Victor Pioneers took a hard 46-31 fall against the KIPP Denver Collegiate White Tigers on Saturday. The Pioneers were down 38-18 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Despite the loss, Cripple Creek-Victor still got an impressive performance from Trevor Mirande, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 11 boards. Mirande is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as he's now pulled down nine or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Chase Lohmeier, who posted five points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals.

Even though they lost, Cripple Creek-Victor smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 13 offensive boards in three consecutive games.

Cripple Creek-Victor now has a losing record at 2-3. As for KIPP Denver Collegiate, the victory got them back to even at 2-2.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cripple Creek-Victor will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on South Park at 6:00 p.m. on January 9, 2025. KIPP Denver Collegiate also won't see the court for a while: their next match is against DSST: Cedar at 6:30 p.m. on January 7, 2025. DSST: Cedar has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
