Soccer Game Preview: Santa Teresa vs. Del Mar

The Santa Teresa Saints will take on the Del Mar Dons in a holiday battle at at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

If Del Mar heads into halftime all tied up, they better play a good second half: that's when Santa Teresa took over last week. Santa Teresa narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Willow Glen 3-2. Giovany NietoSamaniego had the honor of scoring the game-winner for the Saints.

Santa Teresa used a slightly different lineup for their bout with Willow Glen. Three players hit the pitch for the first time this season: Adrian Vazquez, James Vargas, and Angel EncarnacionCortes. Vazquez made the most of the opportunity, putting up one assist A few more games like that and he might be seeing even more time going forward.

Meanwhile, Del Mar hasn't lost a match yet, a trend which continued in their latest game on Tuesday. They never let Fremont onto the board and left with a 4-0 win. Considering the Dons have won four games by more than two goals this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

The victory made it two in a row for Santa Teresa and bumps their season record up to 2-4. As for Del Mar, their win bumped their record up to 5-0-2.

Santa Teresa took their victory against Del Mar in their previous meeting back in February of 2022 by a conclusive 4-1. Does Santa Teresa have another victory up their sleeve, or will Del Mar turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
