Monarchs look to even the score after losing regular season meeting 43-36.

This is one of the biggest weeks of the 2025 high school football season with a bunch of big-time playoff games led by the two CIF Southern Section Division 1 semifinals. No. 4 Centennial (Corona) hosts No. 5 Mater Dei (Santa Ana) and No. 7 Santa Margarita (Rancho Santa Margarita) faces No. 19 Orange Lutheran (Orange) at Orange Coast College.

The Huskies snapped their seven-game skid against the Monarchs in the regular season with a 43-36 win. They jumped out to a 28-0 lead and went into halftime up 33-7. Mater Dei stormed back in the third quarter scoring 29 unanswered points to take a 36-33 lead but Centennial responded scoring the final 10 points. This was the first win for Centennial over Mater Dei since 2015.

Orange Lutheran pulled off one of the biggest upsets in California state postseason history with a 20-19 win over St. John Bosco (Bellflower, Calif.) last week. Santa Margarita handed Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth, Calif.) its first loss of the season with a 21-9 win. These two met during the regular season and the Eagles rolled to a 28-7 victory.

In Tennessee, No. 23 Baylor (Chattanooga) hosts McCallie (Chattanooga) in the Division II-AAA semifinals. The Red Raiders pulled out a 38-35 win during the regular season as David Gabriel-Georges put together a huge performance rushing for a career-high 282 yards and three scores.

Four-time defending Non-Public A champs Bergen Catholic (Oradell, N.J.) faces No. 25 Don Bosco Prep (Ramsey, N.J.) on Friday in the semifinals. The Ironmen won the regular season meeting, 14-9. These two rivals first faced off in 1958 and Don Bosco Prep holds a 42-38-2 edge.

The second round of the Georgia AAAAAA playoffs get underway as No. 2 Grayson (Loganville) hosts Colquitt County (Norman Park), No. 8 Buford faces Newton (Covington) and No. 11 Carrollton takes on Harrison (Kennesaw). If Grayson and Carrollton both win they meet in the quarterfinals next week.

No. 15 De La Salle (Concord, Calif.) seeks its 33rd straight North Coast Section crown as the Spartans face Pittsburg (Calif.) on Friday. De La Salle has won 34 in a row against the Pirates who look for their first win in the series since 1991. A win for the Spartans clinches a spot in the CIF Open Division state championship game on Dec. 13.

No. 13 DeMatha (Hyattsville, Md.) looks to win its second straight WCAC title and the only thing standing in its way is Gonzaga (Washington, D.C.). They square off on Sunday at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. The last time these two played in the WCAC championship game was in 2018 when Caleb Williams led the Eagles to a wild 46-43 win as a sophomore.
