Recap: Dunnellon Tigers vs. Vanguard Knights
The Dunnellon Tigers had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They managed a 52-47 victory over Vanguard on Friday. The win was all the more spectacular given Dunnellon's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 504th, while Vanguard is ranked 177th).
Among those leading the charge was Sean Martin, who scored 12 points along with five rebounds and five steals. Those 12 points set a new season-high mark for him. Another player making a difference was Chris Henry, who scored eight points along with four steals.
Several Knights players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Cameron Powell, who scored eight points along with three steals. D'Mareon Manning was another key contributor, scoring 11 points along with three steals.
Even though they lost, Vanguard were smashing the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Dunnellon only pulled down seven offensive rebounds.
Dunnellon's win bumped their record up to 2-4. As for Vanguard, their defeat was their third straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 4-2.
Dunnellon will face off against Oak Hall at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Vanguard will be home for the holidays to greet West Port at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
