Basketball Recap: Gregori's Win on Monday Extends Winning Streak to Nine

Gregori had won eight straight games and Jayson Powers did his part to make it nine on Monday. The Gregori Jaguars snuck past the Sonora Wildcats with a 66-60 win thanks in part to Powers, who shot 5-for-7 from downtown and dropped a double-double on 30 points and 15 boards. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 16.2 points per game.

Mason Marsden was another key player, putting up nine points and three steals. Those three steals gave him a new career-high.

Despite the loss, Sonora still got an impressive performance from Jonathan Curran, who went 8 of 17 on his way to 21 points and seven rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Quentin Solis, who went 5 of 12 on his way to 13 points.

Gregori's victory bumped their record up to 13-3. As for Sonora, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-5.

Gregori will square off against Bradshaw Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Gregori knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past nine matchups -- so hopefully Bradshaw Christian likes a good challenge. As for Sonora, they will take on Merced at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Sonora is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 51.7 points per game this season.
