Basketball Recap: Friday's Win Is Ponchatoula's 13th in Last 16 Outings

Ponchatoula won the last time they faced Hammond and things went their way on Friday too. The Ponchatoula Green Wave put the hurt on the Hammond Tornadoes with a sharp 63-40 win. Given the Green Wave's advantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 17th, while the Tornadoes are ranked 74th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Despite the loss, Hammond still got an impressive performance from Justin Harland, who posted 11 points and five steals. Harland has been hot recently, having posted three or more steals the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Joseph Carbo, who earned seven points.

Ponchatoula has been performing well recently as they've won 13 of their last 16 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 18-6 record this season. As for Hammond, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 12-5.

Ponchatoula wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 79-61 victory against Salmen on the 14th. As for Hammond, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 46-43 win against Mandeville on the 14th.
