Softball Game Preview: Isle of Wight Academy Chargers vs. Southampton Academy Raiders

The Isle of Wight Academy Chargers are taking a road trip to take on the Southampton Academy Raiders at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.

Isle of Wight Academy is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to ten runs on Monday, they were much more limited against Brunswick Academy on Friday. They fell 7-2 to the Vikings. The Chargers' defeat signaled the end of their three-game winning streak.

Meanwhile, Southampton Academy entered their tilt with Amelia Academy on Wednesday with two consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with three. They blew past the Patriots 19-1. Considering the Raiders have won four contests by more than seven runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Dutchess Rose made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with five RBI and one double. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Reagan Webb was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while going 3-for-3. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Kelsey Braun, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3.

Southampton Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive matches.

Southampton Academy now has a winning record of 5-4-1. As for Isle of Wight Academy, they now have a losing record of 3-4.

Isle of Wight Academy came out on top in a nail-biter against Southampton Academy when the teams last played back in April of 2024, sneaking past 6-5. Will the Chargers repeat their success, or do the Raiders have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
