Baseball Game Preview: Homer Mariners vs. Kodiak Bears

For the second straight game, Homer will face off against Kodiak. The Mariners will square off against the Bears at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.

Homer is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Alaska's top teams: Kodiak, who was ranked 16th at the time (Homer was ranked 12th). The Mariners came out on top against the Bears by a score of 7-4 on Thursday. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Mariners.

Clyde Clemens spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits and racked up ten Ks. He also tossed two walks, which is notable because Homer is undefeated when he allows at most two walks, but 3-4-1 otherwise.

At the plate, Benjamin Engebretsen was excellent, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged two or more in each of the last three games he's played. Vincent Black was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

Homer's victory bumped their record up to 6-4-1. As for Kodiak, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-6-1.
