Baseball Recap: Archbishop Wood Takes a Loss

Archbishop Wood came into their game on Saturday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against the Central Lancers, falling 12-2. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Vikings, who until this contest were averaging 3.17 runs allowed.

Jimmy Casey made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Logan Madison also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Archbishop Wood's loss dropped their record down to 13-5. As for Central, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-8 record this season.

Archbishop Wood and Central should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Pennsylvania Rankings. The Vikings will take on Harriton at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday with a big rank advantage (28 vs. 421). Meanwhile, Central (ranked 231st) will meet Carver High School of Engineering & Science (ranked 568th) at 3:15 p.m. on Monday. The timing is sure in the Lancers' favor as the team sits on 16 straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while Carver High School of Engineering & Science have been banged up by five consecutive losses on the road.
