Baseball Recap: Shaw Takes a Loss

Shaw had lost 11 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 0-6 to make it 12. They lost 18-0 to the Maple Heights Mustangs. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last four times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

As for Maple Heights, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 9-4. Considering they have won seven contests by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

For Maple Heights' part, Lashaun Carr made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Carr was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with four stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, TJ Lee was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, four stolen bases, and three runs. He is becoming a predictor of Maple Heights' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 2-4 when he doesn't). Stephan Tillis was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Maple Heights beat Shaw by a score of 12-0 later that day.
