Preview: Mesa Jackrabbits vs. Canyon View Jaguars
Mesa has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the Canyon View Jaguars at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully Mesa focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Thursday.
Mesa struggled with assists on Thursday (Salpointe Catholic had 800% more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Mesa took a hard 60-45 fall against Salpointe Catholic. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Mesa came into the contest with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked first, while Salpointe Catholic is ranked 40th).
The losing side was boosted by Conway Cummard, who scored 22 points. The game was his third in a row with at least ten points.
Meanwhile, even though Buckeye scored an imposing 60 points on Friday, Canyon View still came out on top. Canyon View took their matchup on the road with ease, bagging a 93-60 win over Buckeye. Canyon View might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team's won four matches by 22 points or more this season.
Their wins bumped Mesa to 7-1 and Salpointe Catholic to 7-2.
Mesa strolled past Canyon View in their previous matchup back in December of 2022 by a score of 64-46. The rematch might be a little tougher for Mesa since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
