Basketball Game Preview: North Eugene Highlanders vs. Thurston Colts

The North Eugene Highlanders will square off against the Thurston Colts at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

North Eugene is probably headed into the matchup with a chip on their shoulder considering Springfield just ended the team's three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They took a 58-42 bruising from the Millers. While losing is never fun, the Highlanders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Oregon basketball rankings (they are ranked 110th, while the Millers are ranked 35th).

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Thurston). They blew past Ashland 59-38 on Friday. Winning may never get old, but the Colts sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.

Thurston pushed their record up to 8-9 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 29.0 points per game. As for North Eugene, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-9.

North Eugene and Thurston were neck-and-neck in their previous meeting back in January, but North Eugene came up empty-handed after a 37-36 loss. Can North Eugene avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
