Softball Recap: Central Comes Up Short

Central had lost four straight on the road, but on Saturday they dropped their record down to 6-11 to make it five. They fell just short of Jurupa Hills by a score of 15-14. Even if Central couldn't come away with the victory, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.

Lia Moreno made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, one run, and one double. She also put up an RBI, which was her first of the season. Victoria Lozano was another key player, getting on base in three of her five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

As for Jurupa Hills, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-9. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.5 runs over those games.

On Jurupa Hills' side, Isabela Torres and Alayna Ibarra did most of the damage at the plate: Torres went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs, while Ibarra went 3-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most hits Ibarra has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Jaylin Olguin, who went 1-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.

Central will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Holtville at 6:30 p.m. on the 29th. As for Jurupa Hills, they will be playing at home against Kaiser at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday.
