Softball Game Preview: Darien Blue Wave vs. Ludlowe Falcons

Darien is 2-8 against Ludlowe since May of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The Blue Wave will face off against the Falcons at 4:15 p.m. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Darien sitting on five straight wins and Ludlowe on three.

Darien barely beat Danbury the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Blue Wave were the clear victors by an 8-0 margin over the Hatters on Monday. Considering the Blue Wave have won seven matchups by more than five runs this season, Monday's blowout was nothing new.

Vivian Knott made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 18 over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, firing off two home runs and five RBI while going 2-for-4. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high.

Knott wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Bella McCarthy, who went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI. Another was Caroline Baldwin, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs.

Meanwhile, it was close, but on Monday Ludlowe sidestepped Stamford for a 4-2 victory. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Falcons have posted against the Black Knights since April 12, 2019.

Darien's record now sits at 12-2. As for Ludlowe, their record is now 11-5-1.

Everything went Darien's way against Ludlowe in their previous matchup back in May of 2025, as Darien made off with a 13-7 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Blue Wave since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
