Basketball Recap: Haywood Christian Academy Takes a Loss

Haywood Christian Academy lost against Veritas Christian Academy back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Haywood Christian Academy Red Wolves were outmatched by the Veritas Christian Academy Warriors and fell 63-16. While losing is never fun, the Red Wolves can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 510th, while the Warriors are ranked 157th).

Lexi Mendez was Haywood Christian Academy's leading scorer, having posted six points.

Veritas Christian Academy's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brooke Miller, who went 8-for-14 en route to 17 points in addition to six boards and three steals. Miller is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in each of the last 28 games she's played dating back to last season. Kaitlyn Miller was another key player, putting up six points along with eight rebounds, seven assists, and seven steals.

Haywood Christian Academy has traveled a rocky road recently having lost seven of their last nine matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-11 record this season. The win was the 13th in a row for Veritas Christian Academy, bringing their record for this year to 17-2.

Haywood Christian Academy wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 68-67 loss against Cornerstone Christian Academy on the 18th. As for Veritas Christian Academy, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 61-24 victory against The Master's Academy on the 15th.
