Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Eli Yeager and Caleb Nicely Lead Covenant to Victory

Covenant lost to Hannan back in February of 2023, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Saturday. The Covenant Eagles managed a 57-52 victory over the Hannan Wildcats.

Leading Covenant to victory were Caleb Nicely and Eli Yeager. Nicely almost dropped a double-double on 22 points and nine rebounds, while Yeager posted 18 points in addition to eight rebounds and five steals. Nicely is also crushing it when it comes to steals: he's grabbed at least five every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Ossie Burck, who had four points.

Despite the loss, Hannan still got an impressive performance from Ian Chaffin, who posted 12 points. The dominant performance gave Chaffin a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Eli Cade, who put up nine points.

Covenant's win ended a three-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-1. As for Hannan, they now have a losing record at 1-2.

It'll be Battle of the Birds when the Covenant Eagles face off against the Lakeside Christian Academy Falcons at 6:00 p.m. on January 6, 2025. Covenant is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59.2 points per game this season. Hannan will take on Elk Valley Christian in a holiday battle at at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
