Basketball Recap: Pretty Prairie Comes Up Short

If Pretty Prairie was riding high fresh off their 52-22 takedown of Chase last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Pretty Prairie Bulldogs were just a bucket shy of victory on Saturday and fell 41-40 to the Caldwell Bluejays. The Bulldogs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bluejays apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.

Several Bulldogs players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Amity White, who went 5 of 12 en route to 13 points and three steals. The dominant performance gave White a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kayleigh Vogl, who posted four points in addition to nine rebounds and four steals.

Caldwell's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ella Risley led the charge by going 7 for 14 to rack up 16 points and four steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which Risley has scored at least a third of Caldwell's points. Ava Newell was another key player, dropping a double-double on 13 points and 12 boards.

Pretty Prairie's defeat dropped their record down to 8-6. As for Caldwell, their record is now 3-11.

Pretty Prairie has already played their next matchup, a 37-31 loss against Central Christian on the 7th. As for Caldwell, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 51-32 defeat against Cedar Vale/Dexter on the 4th.
