Baseball Game Preview: McCracken County Mustangs vs. Lyon County Lyons

The McCracken County Mustangs will square off against the Lyon County Lyons at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (McCracken County 2.8, Lyon County 3.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.

McCracken County's pitching crew heads into the contest hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Tuesday. They came out on top against Murray by a score of 4-0. The victory continues a trend for the Mustangs in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now won four in a row.

Caldwell County typically has all the answers at home, but on Tuesday Lyon County proved too difficult a challenge. They were the clear victors by a 16-3 margin over the Tigers. Considering the Lyons have won eight matchups by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

The team relied heavily on John Bingham, who fired off two home runs and five RBI while going 2-for-3. What's more, he posted two runs, the most he's had since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Austin Spears, who went 2-for-5 with one home run and five RBI.

They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: Lyon County lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Lyon County is on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 16 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.4 runs on average over those games. As for McCracken County, they pushed their record up to 21-8 with the victory, which was their fourth straight at home.

McCracken County beat Lyon County 5-0 in their previous matchup back in May of 2023. Do the Mustangs have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Lyons turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
