Baseball Recap: St. Augustine Picks Up Sixth Straight Win at Home

There's no place like home for St. Augustine, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Saturday. They never let the Benjamin Franklin Falcons get on the board and left with a 12-0 victory on Tuesday. Considering the Purple Knights have won five matchups by more than six runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Ivell Oatis looked comfortable as he struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in strikeouts.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kenyon Hughes, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2. He has become a key player for St. Augustine: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 2-3 otherwise. Jayden Jackson was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-2.

St. Augustine pushed their record up to 5-3 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.7 runs over those games. As for Benjamin Franklin, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 3-5.

Looking ahead, St. Augustine will head out to square off against Patterson at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Benjamin Franklin, they will challenge Kenner Discovery Health Sciences Academy at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
