Nichols had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They had just enough and edged out the St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute Marauders 2-1 on Thursday. That's the third time they've managed to beat them this season, with their most recent victory being a 5-0 win on May 8th.

Ross Yoshida spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up 13 Ks. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in ten consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Nichols' win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Derek McIntyre, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Nichols is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for St. Joseph's Collegiate Institute, they now have a losing record of 11-12-1.

Nichols will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Marauders: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
