Baseball Recap: Whitley County Gets the Win

The Whitley County Colonels beat the Russell Red Devils 5-1 on Saturday.

Trey Walton looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in 11 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Whitley County's win was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was D Parker, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. EJ Allen was another, going 1-for-4 with two RBI and one run.

Whitley County hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in six consecutive contests.

Whitley County's victory bumped their record up to 13-3. As for Russell, they have been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 11-8 record this season.

Whitley County didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 13-2 win against Prestonsburg on the 19th. As for Russell, they have also already played their next contest, a 5-2 victory against Greenup County on the 21st.
