Football Game Preview: Mountain View Spartans vs. Carlmont Scots

For the first time this season, Mountain View will have a chance to prove themselves in a conference matchup. They will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Carlmont Scots at 7:00 p.m. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with three consecutive losses apiece.

Mountain View is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 32 points on September 11th, they were much more limited against Menlo School last Friday. They took a blow against the Knights, falling 48-10. While losing is never fun, the Spartans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 488th, while the Knights are ranked 172nd).

Dom Kristof put forth a good effort for the losing side as he rushed for 100 yards and one TD on only 12 carries, and also picked up 42 receiving yards. He got the majority of those rushing yards when he took off on a run that went for an incredible 55 yards.

Meanwhile, Carlmont was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Friday as they fell 31-27 to Sacred Heart Prep. The Scots gained 97 more yards on the day, but it was the Gators that made the best use of them.

Mountain View will have to contain Brody Zirelli as he made an impact in Carlmont's last game. He threw for 330 yards and three touchdowns while completing 73.8% of his passes, and also punched in one score on the ground. Lucas Robertson was Zirelli's top target, picking up 100 receiving yards and a pair of TDs.

Mountain View's defeat dropped their record down to 1-3. As for Carlmont, their loss dropped their record down to an identical 1-3.

Mountain View and Carlmont were neck-and-neck when the teams last played back in September of 2018, but Mountain View came up empty-handed after a 21-20 defeat.
