Basketball Recap: East Chicago Central Takes a Loss

East Chicago Central was not able to break out of their rough patch on Saturday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They were dealt a 63-33 defeat at the hands of the South Bend Washington Panthers. The Cardinals lost against the Panthers in their previous head to head back in December of 2014, too, but the margin this time around was even wider than the 76-72 score last time.

Kira Reynolds was her usual excellent self, dropping a triple-double on 17 points, 18 boards, and 11 blocks for South Bend Washington. Reynolds has been hot for a while, having posted four or more blocks the last 20 times she's played. Monique Mitchell was another key player, putting up nine points along with seven boards and five assists.

East Chicago Central's loss dropped their record down to 4-9. As for South Bend Washington, their victory was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-1.

East Chicago Central will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Laporte at 7:00 p.m. on January 3, 2025. South Bend Washington also won't see the court for a while: their next game is against New Prairie at 12:30 p.m. on January 4, 2025.
